Stevens and Williams

Pull-up Glass

Osiris Rose Bowls

Pattern #s 12238 - 12285 ca.1887

From Stevens and Williams Design Book

Osiris Rose Bowls are Cased Glass having a contrasting interior glass to which a second layer was cased and the threads are wound on.  Normally Osiris glass is of the Satin Glass which received a smooth finish from the acid bath.  Rare exception exists of Tri Cased Osiris Rose Bowls, which received a clear third Cased Glass coat.  Tri Case Osiris are almost always marked on the base with the word, “PATENT”.

The reader must remember that Stevens and Williams made other Pull-up Glass.  Osiris Glass is distinctive from the other Pull-up Glass (see pattern illustration above) the case glass threads are in a spiral pattern at distinct angle of about 45°.  The pattern spirals from left to right (side view) or clockwise (from the base view).   If the pattern does not have a distinct angled spiral, it is not Osiris Glass.

Below is a pair of Osiris Rows bowls.  It is very similar to S&W Pattern #12259 except the number of crimps is wrong.  It appear to have on 10 crimps while Pateen #12259 calls or 16 crimps.
